D-mannose is a kind of sugar that is related to glucose.
Contents
Uses
- Preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Treating inherited metabolic disorder
- Bladder infections
Benefits
Absorption of D-mannose Targets the Urinary Tract
D-mannose is not metabolized like other sugars in the body, it does not alter blood sugar levels and the plant components are filtered directly into the bladder. As D-mannose is excreted it essentially passes through the kidneys, fills the bladder and flushes the entire urinary tract when you urinate.
D-mannose is an Antibacterial
Up to half of all women will have some experience with a urinary tract infection. The main culprit in these infections is Escherichia coli(E.coli). This is the bacteria responsible for about 90% of all UTIs. D-mannose specifically rids the body of E.coli.
Cautions
D-mannose appears to be safe for most adults. It can cause loose stools and bloating. In high doses, it might harm the kidneys.
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the use of D-mannose during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
- Diabetes: Some research suggests that D-mannose might make blood sugarcontrol more difficult in people with diabetes.
