Dextrin is a sticky substance belonging to the group of intermediate products that results from the conversion of starch into sugars

  • Dextrin is used as an ingredient in food processing or as food thickening agents. It prevents the crystallization of sugar. When added to foods like sauces and dressings, dextrin helps to bind them together. Dextrin is found in the ingredient list of processed foods like juice drinks, baked goods, cereal sticks, confectionery, chewing gum, nuts, French fries and dairy products. It is also used as a glaze substitute for fat-free and egg-free baked products. It is used as an adhesive in many manufacturing applications.

  • One of the benefits of dextrin as a natural fiber is aiding the body in expelling waste.
  • It increases the lactobacilli levels in the colon, promoting the body’s digestive abilities.
  • It helps in reducing cholesterol levels, gives the feeling of fullness, regulates insulin response and reduces the risk of heart disease.

  • Dextrin is safe to use because it is derived from starch, although some people may exhibit allergic reactions to corn or wheat in some dextrins.
