Pansy has the following chemicals – flavonoids, resin, saponin, violin, methyl salicylate and mucilage. The herb offers the following medicinal properties– anodyne, expectorant, diuretic, demulcent, diaphoretic and laxative.

During the earlier times, herbal tea prepared using dried pansy flowers was used to treat skin problems. Today, herbal tea is made using the roots and even the entire plant of Pansy. Pansy is also used as an expectorant to treat respiratory problems such as whooping cough and bronchitis. The herb helps in removing the phlegm from the body during an attack of cold and cough.
