Uses

Ammi visnaga is used in herbal medicine to treat a variety of health issues. These include angina, asthma, bronchitis, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney stones, premenstrual syndrome, and more. Ammi visnaga is also used directly on the skin to treat conditions such as alopecia areata and psoriasis.

Benefits

Ammi visnaga contains khellin, which is said to promote the widening of blood vessels. It is also said to reduce inflammation. Although there’s limited research on ammi visnaga, evidence exists that supports the notion that ammi visnaga has benefits including:

  • preventing buildup of minerals that form kidney stones
  • reducing blood sugar levels
  • repigmentation of vitiligo-affected skin

Cautions

Ammi visnaga may lead to constipation, nausea, liver problems, and difficulty sleeping. Individuals with liver disease should not use ammi visnaga.

Keep in mind that supplements containing ammi visnaga are mostly unregulated and may contain too high of dosage or metal contamination. Consult a doctor before self-diagnosing and/or self-prescribing ammi visnaga.
