Cerium is a soft silvery-white metal with symbol Ce. It tarnishes when exposed to air. Because it is soft enough, you can cut with a knife. It is the second element in the lanthanide series.

- Cerium is a soft, gray metal that is used in heat resistant alloys, gas lantern mantles, a component and decolorizer of glass and ceramics, in the walls of self-cleaning ovens, and more. It is also used in trace mineral dietary supplements.
